MacBook Pro Display Mod - New Info?

New here to the forum but I have been following the efforts of "baxterbrittle" and "vv-tim" with great interest.

I thought I'd do a little research and try to find the possible perfect LCD panel to try and use for the MacBook Pro if it were to be succesfully modded.

Heres what I have come up with, the MacBook Pro 15" uses (to my best knowledge) the "Samsung Model LTN154X7-L02" LCD panel unit.

I did some google-ing and found a store that has many, many Samsung LCD panels. I figure that if the MacBook Pro is very picky on what it will run, why not stick to the same brand and possibly same line of LCD's?

The panel I was using for testing was a Samsung model. Looks great in XP... still no solution for OS X

I see.. well it was worth a try, I'd LOVE to upgrade the screen in mine.

What I don't understand is why can't OSX just run the new screen at the stock screen res? Was it because of the refresh rate issue? Or does the new screen not run at 1440x900?

I'd be fine if OSX would just work at 1440x900 but have the option for 1920x1200 in XP for photo editing and stuff like that.

Too bad we don't have the budget to try more panels and stuff.

The first problem we ran into was refresh rate. Using DisplayConfX I managed to get the refresh rate workign properly, but then we had a strange color issue that rendered it pretty much unusable.

It won't work at 1440x900 at all in OS X.

I don't believe any 1920x1200 displays allow for a non-stretched 1440x900 resolution.

The ideal display would run 1920x1200 @ 70Hz, but I don't believe one is presently being manufactured.

Do you happen to know what the native panel's refresh rate is?

I know it was brought up earlier in the other thread, but has anyone actually tried installing the Callisto drivers? It may be a wholly unrelated thing, but reading the OSx86 forums, and comparing the Dell models that use the display I am attempting to get working, there are people having success with this method. They seem to focus mostly on the video cards, but I'm wondering if a more generic driver would be helpful here.

If anyone has tried it, I'd love to hear about it - otherwise, I'll give it a go & let you all know how it turns out.

Wow, amazing thread!

I have a 1.67GHz PBG4 (non-HighRes) that has a horrible screen flicker problem. It was dropped on its rear corner by the power adapter plug. I used to be able to angle the display with a lsight push and that would clear things up, but it no longer works. I have sinced ordered a new LVDS cable, thinking that the cable was pinched somehow and giving an intermittent connection. It hasn't arrived yet, but I already took most of the PowerBook apart and played with the existing cable and it doesn't seem to affect the flickering (for better or worse) with any amount of jiggling. So now I thin the display itself may be damaged and need to be replaced. Then I came across this thread.

I don't think I want to spend the money or attempt the swap with an actual MBP case, but would like to perhaps upgrade to the high-res 1440x960 display that was used in the last rev of the G4 PowerBooks. Does anyone know of any compatible 15.2" displays with that resolution? I also have a 12" that I would _love_ to do this on! TIA.

I'm fairly sure the native 1440x900's refresh is 70Hz.

It's been a while since I've worked with the mod, but I'm fairly sure that's what we were working at.

I'm probably going to install the 1920x1200 display again soon after I get my RSD issue fixed (hopefully with my fans NOT being on all the time as I currently have). Moving over to full time Windows... I'm just hoping Boot Camp improves.
