Will be visiting the states soon and I am wondering how early I can make my Genius Bar appointment at the Apple Store to get the display fixed. Could I and should I do it like a week before so I don't encounter any delays and have it fixed same day?

I have a severe case of this since I bought mine in the Fall of 2015, but it got worse after November 2016.
Now that I have a conference to attend again, I will be using the opportunity to get it fixed but I would like to schedule this while I have free time. Should be arriving on a Friday early morning.
By the way, I am planning to buy one of these exact models for my brother and I am wondering what I should do; since these models are notorious for this problem.
