I'm having of a problem Playing DVD's on my MBP and am unsure if it is the software of hardwhere.

DVD's seem to play fine until I use the Apple remote or sometimes the DVD Player controls, in either Front Row or the DVD Player, when the film will either freeze or just keep fastforward or rewinding (depending on what is pressed) and the computer locks and nothing can be done except pressing the power button to shutdown and then restart. It seems to happen with films (longer playing times) than the odd program.

I've also noticed there is sometimes a sound comming from the drive area when no disc is inserted that sounds like its trying to spin something, like short preiodic revs, usually after watching a DVD (after it froze half way through).

Another thing that I've only noticed when watching a DVD with cartoons on it is during playback is sometimes the image appears blocky (like the compression failing??) this didnt happen when i played the DVD on my xbox.

Sorry its a bit long but would anyone have an idea about what could be causing the problem, and any suggestions, as I'm no expert??

Thanks in advance!

Try and run your hardware test disc and check the drive (SD). You may need to take it/send it in as it sounds like a hardware issue. The drives are touchy in these and the Core Duo iMacs. Just make sure the disc doesn't get stuck in there (my movie did and got it back when the drive got replaced).
Good luck :)

I did the extended hardware test and it said no trouble. I watch quite a lot of DVD's so I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it and call Apple if the problem persists, which I have a feeling it will!

Cheers,

Jake
