Hi all,

I am looking for some advice on my Macbooks

I have the following computers,

  1. MBA 11' (mid 2013) i5 1.3GHz , 4GB ram, 121GB Flash Mem , Intel Graphics 5000
  2. MBP 13' (early 2011) i5 2.3Ghz, 16GB, 256GB SSD, Intel Graphics 3000
Both are now running Catalina (MBP due to patcher as not metal)

As I no longer need both, which one should I drop?

I don't code, I use DJ software, Office package for work I usually plug up to monitors when in the office or at home so screen size does not bother me.

Keen to get some feedback on this.

Do both do the job smoothly for what you need it for or are either of them sluggish?

Do you need the portability of MBA or do you seldom carry it?

I would personally go for mbp because it's more capable and expandable and don't value portability much. The 121GB flash mem would be too limiting for me. YMMV

Both do the Jobs I need them to do in reality. The only thing I would say is the MBP is louder and the fan does spin up, assuming this is down to the older CPU.

Currently, I pick up whichever is close to hand, The portability is not an issue for me as both are more portable than any previous Laptops I have owned.

In terms of the size of Memory due to Keeping all my music and photos backed up to an external SSD, I have no real issue with the size of both.

I guess in reality I am more interested in which one I will get the most longevity out of.

I guess what I am trying to understand is on these specs alone which is going to give me the best performance and longevity.

(2013) i5 1.3GHz (4th Gen Haswell) 4GB ram, 121GB Flash Mem , Intel Graphics 5000
(2011) i5 (1st Gen Sandy Bridge) 2.3Ghz, 16GB, 256GB SSD, Intel Graphics 3000

Cheers!
E
