Macbook Pro Eject key no delay?

With my iBook and Powerbook I would have to hold the eject key down for about a second before the disk would eject. This delay saved me a lot of hassle when I would accidentally strike the eject key while attempting to press the delete(backspace, if you ask a windows user) key. This doesn't seem to be happening on the MacBook Pro.

I called Apple and they said that their documentation did not indicate that the MacBook Pro has this feature. I'm not necessarily sure that's the case. Any other MacBook Pro owners have any input on this issue. While I can understand that some people may not have appreciated this feature, it seems it would be a good idea to include a Sys. Prefs. checkbox to activate or deactivate this feature.

Dude, it was too a feature. My 500mhz dvd/cdrom combo ibook originally ejected immediately when I pressed the key. A subsequent update added the delay, which required me to hold down the eject key for a second before ejecting, instead of ejecting after only a momentary key press, which has prevented my optical drive from constantly ejecting. Just in the past half hour I've accidentally ejected a dvd twice when attempting to press the backspace key. I'm not talking about a delay in ejecting the disk, I'm talking about a delay in recognizing the keypress. If anybody has something helpful to add to this discussion, I'd appreciate it.

Maybe they removed it because there's no tray to pop out anymore? I don't know. I like that there's a delay. Maybe someone will figure out how to change it.

The delay gives me enough time to move my arm out of the way. Hooray for the delay! haha.

FWIW, my PowerBook has the delay, while my Power Mac G5 doesn't have a delay that I notice. Neither bothers me, but I guess I'd rather have the delay if I were going to choose.

Yup, same thing here. Had to hold down the key for a second on my PB, on the new MBP, a slight tap and boom its out. I don't use Cd's much, but I can see where the delay would be the better way to go.

It sounds like the delay has disappeared on the macbook pro's then. It shouldn't be an issue for Apple to implement, in fact, the original snow ibooks did not have the delay, but a subsequent update enabled it. Perhaps Apple can be convinced to give us the delay back.

As for the G5, it's not really needed for desktop computers, since the eject key isn't directly above the delete key, so there is little chance of accidentally striking it as is likely with a laptop.

You could try messing with iKey to see if you can set it up as a kotkey with delay.

I've got the last of the 1.5GHz 15" G4 PowerBooks, and I just have to tap the eject key eject a disk - however, there is about a 1s delay before the disk comes out, but it's too late to stop that.

Even just tapping ejected the disk on my old 350MHz G3 iMac. However, on my dad's 500MHz G3 iBook, you do have to hold the key down to pop the CD tray out.

Interesting...I recently started using an external keyboard and iCurve with my PowerBook for a more comfortable/ergonomic computing position. Anyway, to eject a disk, I only have to tap the eject key on the external keyboard, but the built-in keyboard has a delay.

@AppleMatt I'm planning on it. Just verifying if this is an issue with my machine, or if the feature was removed.

On my current model iBook i have to hold down the eject key for a second to eject anything.

On my iMac all i have to do is tap it for a split second and it ejects.

If the MacBook Pros really do have this "no delay eject" thing i could see some people being annoyed by it. I would probably be one of those people.

To everyone stating there's a delay on the built in keyboard, but not on your Apple external one: That's because on the Apple external kb, the eject key isn't right above the Delete key and it would be extremely difficult to hit it on accident! I hit the eject key sometimes instead of delete, and I'm glad there's a delay.

Go to Sys Prefs>Keyboard & Mouse>Keyboard tab>Check off the "Use the F1-12 keys to control software..." and you'll have to press Fn+FX to eject, X being whichever key it is on the MBP.

The eject key on my PowerBook 1.67GHz (purchased Feb 2005) does not have a delay - it ejects the disc immediately. So it's not new to the MacBook Pro...

makes me wonder if this was disabled accidentally with an update. doesn't seem like it should be happening. especially with that powerbooks. it would be an annoying thing.

A delay would be quite useful, I've already popped out a few Cds accidentally while trying to hit the backspace key.

My PowerBook 1.67 (given to me by Apple as a replacement last month) doesn't have the delay either. My previous PB, a 1.5, did.
