MacBook Pro for Gaming

Hello,
I've always been a PC user and I'm looking into switching to a Mac. I like to do photo-editing and video-editing. I do think this works easier and probably more stable on a Mac, but I'm not so sure about gaming.

Now the new Macbook Pro offers a DirectX 10 videocard, but does anybody now how well this actually performs? How long into the furure do you guys think I will be able to play games under Vista?

A MacBook Pro costs a lot of money, for the same amount you can get a really good PC that will also do video-editing pretty well, but I just would really like to have OSX and the MacBook looks beautiful!

So what do you think? Will gaming be a problem, for lets say the coming 1,5 years?

Well, I guess it depends upon how much of a serious gamer you are. The MBP contains a mid-range gaming part. It does perform very well, and by my standard for World of Warcraft (which I play under OS X) it's phenomenal, but you can get 'hardcore' gaming notebooks with high-end graphics parts and even SLI.

Check out http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600M.html and see if the GT version offers enough performance for you compared to what you're used to.

My personal feeling is that you'll be fine, and that you'll love the MBP :)
 
Well, the games I want to play are for example the new Crysis coming out in September and the new UT, things like that.
I mostly game with friends, so it would be nice if I can still keep doing that.

I don't doubt, that I will love the MPB though, the whole design is just great!
 
I don't have any exact benchmarks to give you, but for what its worth I play BF 2142 and C&C 3 on high settings in vista with no problem whatsoever.

Not sure how crysis would cope though, it looks to be a pretty graphics intense game...
 
If you are a hardcore gamer you might want to look at something else, but it does perform very well in games nonetheless. It is not the top laptop gaming rig, but it's not far off.
 
The only semi-up-to-date benchmark I can judge mine by is Battlefield 2142. I've got it at native resolution (1440x900) with all the graphics settings at max (except anti-aliasing, causes blue screens :\) and it plays beautifully. Take that as you will.

no problems with anti-aliasing on mine (vista 32bit, 1440x900 all to max 2x AA)
 
Okay, that all sounds pretty good!! Well, then you may have an other member to your Mac-Family soon! :p
