Hi

Could anyone recommend a reputed online site that builds customized Macs? Looking to buy a refurbished Macbook Pro for music production, nothing to heavy, mainly light projects in Garagband or Logic. 16GB ram, 512GB SSD, OS Mojave.

Thanks.

Unless you have-to-have portability, I'd consider a 27" iMac to be a better choice.

For music production (with its left-to-right timeline), you want the biggest display possible.

A 2018/20 Mini might be a good alternative, also -- with a 27" or perhaps even a 32" display.

There are not really customized Macs anymore...only different spec machines when manufactured. While some older models can still have RAM and/or drive upgraded...that is about it.

But you would have to go back to about a 2012 model as I recall. Some later models can have their SSD upgraded, but most have RAM soldered in.

Unless you want a vintage Mac (more than 5 years old), figure out the spec you need (CPU and RAM), and go for it. Generally speaking, I would suggest just what you said: 16GB and 500GB SSD. You may be able to upgrade the SSD...but check the exact model before you dive in. These guys have easy buying guides with regard to what is available for drive upgrades.

my 10 year old macbookpro (ssd, 2.53Ghz, el capitan) still does a good job with logic 9.
performance is still fine and enough if you don't have a lot of plugins goin on.
cheers
