Hi,
My friend has recently got a mbp and wants to upgrade the 128MB VRAM to 256MB. He found this card at a reasonable price Club 3D Radeon 9250 and would like to know if it will fit into his mbp.
Any help appreciated.

hahahha

you can't upgrade graphics in the laptops they are on the motherboard

and a 9250 would be crap compared to the x1600

Another victim of misleading marketing from computer vendors and game boxes :p ... More vRam doesn't necessarily mean better performance. Think of the video processor as you would the computer. A 500MHz computer with 2GB ram will not be faster than a 2GHz computer with 1GB of ram.

The processor speed in the 9250 is waaaay slower than the x1600, and unless you are trying to drive a 50" monitor (heh, do they exist) you will have little to no gain in performance with more vRam in the same card.

At least I think i'm correct :D

EDIT: And yeah as eva01 said - the x1600 is not a video 'card' - its part of the motherboard, so you can't replace it.

Yes, you can't switch out the (so-called) video card.
But, to add to blackout8, 256 MB over 128 MB indeed wouldn't have a great performance advantage but it would last longer. That is, newer games would need more and more memory for more and more textures that are more and more detailed and whatnot. Not last longer as in would die later on. Getting 256 MB over 128 MB would be looking into the future. Then again, my PC's 4-year old GeForce 4 has 128 MB of VRAM. And then yet again, it hasn't failed me yet. Runs great with even newer games. Some games only at lower res (FEAR), and one doesn't work at all (Oblivion--needs newer shader versions), but HL2 works amazingly great. But, I don't really play video games. Maybe some older ones.

Thanks guys.

Had my last exam today 11 week summer holiday has started!!!!:D
