I have a few questions, and would be eternally grateful if the wise members of these forums could help answer them. :)

1. On the UK keyboard, how do I use the delete function?
Nvm, read the other thread.

2. How do I stop the MBP screen from dimming?

3. How can I stop it from going to sleep when I close the screen?

4. Also, what exactly do F9 and F10 do?

5. I've accidentally deleted my Applications folder (I was trying to drag and drop it to the dock and it disappeared) - how do I get it back? Btw, just to be clear - I don't think I've actually lost the applications, because I can still open up programs like Camino/iWork etc. It's just that the Applications folder no longer appears in Finder.

6. I've connected my 24" monitor and want to use the MBP in clamshell mode (i.e. MBP screen off, 24" monitor as my primary display) - how do I do this?

7. What's the best way to make a backup of my whole system? I'm taking in my MBP tomorrow to return it and then buy it back with a free iPod Nano - but I'm not 100% sure that they'll let me buy the same one back.

8. How do I setup networking with my other PC? It's currently attached to my wireless router via an ethernet cable, while I'm attached to the router via wifi.

Thanks in advance. :)

2. Go in system preferences --> displays --> untick automatically adjust brightness
3. Download insomniaX
4. F9 and F10 adjust the brightness of the backlight keyboard. So if you're in a dark room, the keyboard should automaticaly light up, and F9 makes it dimmer while F10 makes it brighter. F8 toggles the illumination of the keyboard on or off.
5. Open your finder. Click macintosh HD on the left side. Then drag the applications folder back into the left side where it was before (right on top of documents). Then also drag the same folder you just dragged onto the dock if you want to make a shortcut of it.
6. Connect the monitor, plug your macbook pro to AC adapter, and have an external keyboard and mouse plugged into it as well. Close your MBP display (computer will sleep) then click a keyboard key or click the mouse, then computer will turn back on with your external monitor being the main screen.
7. An external hard drive? Im not so sure of the best way
8. I wont answer this one now cuz im not 100% sure of your question lol

For networking, enable windows file sharing in the sharing tab of system preferences and set up folders to share on the windows computer.

Then, to access your windows computer from your mac, in finder hit go > connect to server and type "smb://ip of your windows computer" for example smb://192.168.1.123

To access your mac from windows, go to start > run and type \\mac ip\

So it would be something like \\192.168.1.92\.

Yeah, that's if you press "fn" at the same time. When not pressing "fn" F9 shows all windows open and F10 shows just the windows for the app. that you are currently using. So if you have 4-5 browser windows open, you can get a quick overview by pressing F10

At least that's how they work when no settings have been modified.

Well on my MacBook Pro (UK version)...

F8, F9 and F10 are all for the keyboard backlighting. And no, I don't need to press "Fn" - that is there primary default function.

When I press Fn I get Expose and so on.

That's kinda wierd... It's opposite on mine

Thought it was the same with all Macs
Guess not
