Okay, Apple is sending me a MacBook Pro to replace my PowerBook (such glee!!), and I have a few questions about preformance. How well will the following programs run under Rosetta?

Adobe GoLive CS2
Adobe PhotoShop Elements 3
Carrara 5
Final Cut Studio (don't have access to UB versions yet)
Sim City 4

Also, I definitaly need to buy some more RAM (they're only gonna give me 500MB), how much whould you reccomend.

I have no idea how any of those programs would run under rosetta, but if you are going to be using programs like that, i would reccomend 2 GB of RAM, because rosetta is a ram hungry process. But make sure to keep the 512 MB that it comes with, in case it needs to be serviced.

I think you'd be confortable at 1GB or if you have enough money to blow, 2GB would make your MPB lightning fast.

GoLive ran alright on my friends MacBook with only 512, but I wouldn't want to use it for an extended period of time. Final Cut is UB now.

I know Final Cut is UB, but unfortunatly, I work with a small video production company, and they haven't yet made the leap to Intel yet. They haven't even upgraded their software, so I'm stuck with PowerPC binary until they upgrade.

i work in photoshop alot with 1 GB RAM, and it is a little slower than my old 1.5 ghz powerbook g4, but i really only notice the difference when working with massively large files, thats when i run out of RAM

Carrara 5 Pro

I just set up my shiny new Mac Pro today (2.66GHz), and was happily surprised to find that Carrara 5 Pro runs - so far no issues, though it's hardly been an in-depth test. But some test renders with texture maps, caustics, etc. came out fine and take advantage of all of the cores! I just looked to be sure - it's definitely a PPC only executable, so Rosetta is doing some sort of magic to make it work which definitely impresses me.

I haven't had a chance to compare the speed to my old machine (2GHz G5 iMac) - I think I'm seeing better overall performance if only due to 4 cores rather than 1 before.
