Mine was doing the same (M3 max) but haven’t noticed it since latest update. Maybe just a coincidence but seems to be fine now.
 
Very disturbing and worrying. Unnecessary heat can damage your mac, battery, display, right?
If it’s getting hot where you can’t touch it then yes there can be damage. Unplug it immediately and take it to Apple because there’s a problem.

The post you linked says warm, not hot though. If it’s getting warm that’s fine. If you do video editing or play games for a while on your Mac, it’s going to get a little warm. That means the processor is working. Sometimes if the battery is really low and you plug it in, it will get a little warm charging.

To me it sounds like something is running and preventing your Mac from sleeping. You have to figure out what is keeping it awake.
 
I am no computer expert. It was slightly warm, not hot.
