Resolved Macbook Pro keyboard area heating up!

HI, I bought the Macbook pro retina display, and a keyboard protector.. (not a branded one though). It covers the keyboard and the speakers and nothing else, but now my keyboard area gets heated up in 10-15 mins...
it does not cover the vents at the bottom where the screen is attached. can anyone explain why does this happen? and is there any special protector for macbook?

It's normal. Your computer will heat up if you're doing intensive tasks.

i didnt do any intensive task, all i was doing was reading a report, and the backlight was also turned off.

As miles01110 said, it's normal. Use iStat Pro (free) or iStat Menus ($16) to get accurate readings of your temps, fan speeds and much more.

1. Launch Activity Monitor
2. Change "My Processes" at the top to "All Processes"
3. Click on the CPU column heading once or twice, so the arrow points downward (highest values on top).
4. Click on the System Memory tab at the bottom.
5. Take a screen shot of the entire Activity Monitor window, then scroll down to see the rest of the list, take another screen shot
6. Post your screenshots.

MacPro 15" Retina running hot too!

I have the 15" Mac Pro, just bought a couple of days ago. Just noticed that the bottom is running really hot, as well as the top area above the keyboard (under the screen area). Posted iStat picture to get the temp and rpm of fan. Was doing nothing intensive - just surfing the web and checking email - seriously regular stuff.

Is it normal for the temp to be running this hot?

Nothing to worry about, Macs trademark is running warm to hot depending on several variables. It'll shut down if needed.

that is not normal cpu % for just surfing the web. you must be running flash videos or theres a runaway process you dont see. i avg around ~30-35c for just surfing regular web pageswithout flash and cpu load is ~1%

This aspect of skins and protectors is not discussed much, but any insulating material you put on your MacBook Pro will inhibit the radiation of heat from that surface. If the metal between your keys warms up, the keyboard protector is going to prevent that heat from dissipating through the metal and will instead cause that heat to spread horizontally and into adjacent components (keys).

I will assume that these companies have researched the impacts of their products on the MacBook Pro.

The impact of using these keyboard covers is minimal.
