Macbook Pro Keyboard.

Ugh. So the other day for no apparent reason the springy-ness of my Macbook Pro's keyboard's spacebar died. I'm not sure why. I didn't do anything to it & I've had it for a less than month. It's not that the spacebar doesn't work (I'm typing with the keyboard right now), it just doesn't have the tactile feedback that the other keys do anymore. It feels squishy, rather than having that subtile click. I'm afraid to yank the spacebar off of the keyboard to see what's going on... but I can't think what else could be wrong. I would bring it to the genius bar, but I doubt they would care because it still technically works, it just feels harder to get it to space/click. I dunno. I'm sort of OCD about keeping my computer in top shape, and after spending $3000+ on a laptop... the little things really irk you. To be fair I do use the spacebar a lot... I use this as my mobile graphic design machine even though CS2 isn't native... the space bar is kind of important for navigating around your piece in photoshop, illustrator etc...

Anyone's thoughts on what to do would be greatly appreciated

I would go into the Apple Store and see if they can do anything. And if they say no, wait until it gets bad until they point of where it doesn't work (or do it youself ) and bring it back in and demand a replacement/

Sounds like the spring might have slipped off. Yanking it up shouldn't break anything as long as you put it back together correctly, and it might fix the issue--I accidentally pulled the escape key off my MBP, and putting it back was no problem.

Pull it up and have a look. Otherwise, carry it in and say "it ain't working--fix it!" and they probably will.

My trackpad button went crunchy and loose after about 3 weeks (as if something inside broke)....and although it still worked, it wasn't normal. They offered to fix it, but I asked if there was any way that could replace the unit rather than rip open a machine that was less than a month old. They passed it up to more senior tech support people and they agreed to replace it. I thought this was very generous since they didn't actually HAVE to do that...

Doesn't hurt to ask to have it fixed or replaced....the worst they can say is no.

My friends sisters MacBook does this with the down key. Tis annoying.

Out of interest, does the problem persist when you take the battery out?

My friend had this exact problem, and it turns out his battery had expanded and was pressing against the underside of the spacebar. A new battery - obtained through the battery exchange program - resolved the problem.

Ahh the Apple Store

All is good now, the Mac Genius guy took it in the back and came back out with it back in perfect springy shape. I guess I totally underestimated them, I didn't think they'd care to deal with something so small... concidering you've got people sitting right next to you at the bar who's computers refuse to turn on etc.

I guess this is just a reminder why you pick Apple
