Hello Everyone!

I have a MacBook Pro Late 2013 purchased in March 2014. My MacBook has the coating issue all over around the black part including the display part (monitor display) making it extremely bothering if not impossible using graphics programs.


I visited a local Apple Store and they denied the free repairing because I bought the Mac in March 2014. Basically, the free repairing was valid until March 2018. Meaning that, for just 2 months (60 days) I am out of the program!


Very sad... any bits of advice or recommendations?

Contact Apple support over the phone and ask for a senior advisor. This is a well known issue and one of them will sort you out.

Thank you for the advice! Do you think by doing that they will help me? I am based in Italy and when I went to the Apple Store the Genius Bar employee went to the manager that refused, then he got in touch with Apple Support in Cupertino (at least that's what he said) that they can give to the Genius bar a code to get the Display Case from €650 (cost of a new one) to €0. Apple in Cupert,ino refused. Basically by inputting my Serial Number they cannot do the repairing because it's ouf of the program for two months.

You need to keep pushing them and they will sort it out.
If you get in touch with a senior advisor and explain the situation and that's not your fault for this problem as it's a well know issue with those MacBooks, they will book a repair for you free of charge.

I setup the appointment online via chat and asked if they would replace the screen even though I was outside the extended warranty timeframe. The chat lady said that they usually do at the store. When I went to the store, the apple service person was able to get her manager to sign off on it.

So for me, I got the new screen for free!

I had my screen replaced twice. 1st time, the coating started wearing off 2-3 months later. Not as bad as the original.

As crazy as it sounds, but I see very slight wear in near the top middle camera area as well. Minute, but I can see .

I don't know if there is any real difference in the new replacements, just short of them good-willing one

The Genius Bar employee saw all the previous Apple Support calls I did and asked "Why didn't you call for this issue before?" and then said, because you haven't called before, for Apple it is like this problem has arisen after March 2018 (the 4-year window) even though the employee confirmed to me that my MacBook Pro has too much of it and even took pictures but both managers and Apple Cupertino refused...

Do you think is it worth to go to another different Apple Store?

Believe me, they didn't contact anybody in Cupertino, thats nonsense.
You can try a different store, but your best bet is to call them or chat online and ask for senior advisor.

Chatting or calling Apple Support will take me nowhere since it is a hardware problem so the only place they can fix it is at the Apple Store. BTW I called Apple Support various times and they just told me "We can only get you an appointment but if it is out of the 4-year window nothing can be done but you can pay for it!" I called like 3-4 times... same response, they can only get an appointment and Apple Store needs to evaluate...the order of a new display would not go through for free.

I was in a similar situation and I sorted it out after calling them and requesting a senior advisor which arranged an appointment and free repair outside the 4 year window. You are covered 6 years for consumers rights, so you need to keep trying.

Is it worlwide this 6 year consumer right? I am in Italy right now, going to the US in Sept.

MBP without anti-glare coating is no big deal. Putting up with the crazed coating for months and dreading the loss of my MBP for 5-7 days drove me to remove the coating myself with Brasso. The results were like a fresh mountain breeze. I do not miss the anti-glare coating in the slightest.
