Hello guys.
USB Power Output of M1 and M2 MacBook USB-C/Thunderbolt Ports?
When I try to post this thread, Macrumours recommend this article. Unfortunately, it's still in the early days of the machine release, so not much concrete info.

My question is: how much power does USB-C port on those MacBook Pro M1 2020 deliver?

Recently, I encounter a problem where I have to connect multiple power-hungry USB drives through a USB hub, as long as I connect more than 2 drives (regardless of type), all drives would disconnect and macOS notification pops up saying disk is not ejected properly. This is terrible because I use mechanical hard drive extensively and hard parking can and will kill the drive extremely fast.

I am thinking about buying a better dongle, but maybe I am forced to upgrade to M2 MacBook Pro 14" when it releases just because the USB-C port power output on these MacBook Pro is insufficient.

If anyone can have some info about the above that will be amazing.

This is for MBP 2021 but the method described should allow you to see how much is available on yours.
Interesting thread.
Followed the link and says the port is operated in USB3 mode with output power of 900mA. That's strangely low for a USB hub.
However, when I connect my M1 iPad Pro, it shows current available as 500mA, extra operating current 1900mA and sleeping current 2400mA.
I don't know what's going on and the USB2 transfer speed shown in the system information confuses me even more. Somebody might have to develop a new utility to figure out all of these currents.
