Hi all,

I get a new MBP M1 with a total battery cycle of 2 but it seems that it not so efficient as stated maybe an old one?
With a charge of 100% after about an hour of editing with Affinity photo (which is optimized for the M1) and a couple of email and browser with safari I have lost 13% of charge. Is this normal?

thx

New setups take 24-72h to settle down. Lots of background tasks using iCloud etc

Retest after 3 days

Thx for the reply.
I´ll test it again after a couple or cycle and after some day of usage, I really hope it is not an issue related to a defect and that I don't need to send the Mac back to have it replaced. ??

You didn't bother asking what iCloud apps he is actively using in the cloud. If he doesn't actively use any at the moment (that take more than a few minutes to sync), telling him him wait 24 - 72 hrs doesn't accomplish anything.

I didn't see anyone asking about screen brightness or how many tabs he had running at once in Safari etc.

I just bought my m1 MacBook Air last Friday, charged it Friday night after using it for a few hours, and then unplugged it around 5 am on Saturday, used it all of Saturday and Sunday, charged it again since I wasn't sure if 58% would last the day on Monday and have not plugged it in since Sunday night, used it all day Monday, Tuesday and today and still have 58% remaining. planning on using it for a couple more hours tonight, so not sure if I am going to plug it for charge tonight or wait and see how it does tomorrow yet.

Try not to let the battery get below 20% or above 80% on a regular basis. Keeping the battery in that range will help with the life span of the battery over time.

After a while I check the battery ife after some normal usage and I could confirm that it's amazing (after a couple of cycles) it loses about 3 to 5% watching a movie with Apple TV and about 5-10% with a session of about 3hrs of photo editing.
To improve the life of the battery life and to preserve it, I follow the advices found over the internet and I charge it once it arrive at about 20% of remaining charge and I never use it with the charger 24/7.
