I plug my MBP M1 into my monitor with an hub, the monitor is ok, everything else works, screen on the MBP is BLACK, and the MBP is charging.
If I unplug the MBP M1 I can't use it because the screen is black, if I try to close and reopen the lid.....nothing change, alway black screen.

In a van down by the river
Turn off the M1 and unplug the hub and the M1 from the monitor. Leave it off for 1 - 2 minutes and turn back on. See if that fixes the problem.

I have read reports of some hubs causing this kind of problem, as well as rendering the M1 dead (can't turn on).

You should contact Apple support through the Apple Support app and see what they advise you do. It sounds like you may need to send it back and get a new one if you are still in the return window, or have them take a look at it to correct whatever problem is keeping the screen from coming on.

I don't think HDMI plays nicely with the M1 chip. Try doing direct USB-C to USB-C from the monitor if you can. If not, I suggest getting a monitor with a USB C port so you can just directly plug in.

Will mirroring the display work at all? seems like a setting just using external display like clamshell mode. If not could be a software or hardware glitch

My MBP M1 also faced similar problem. At that time, I was browsing through Safari when the black screen happened. I didn't even plug anything to the macbook...
