I am using a dell 3219Q at 4K native 60hrz.
While i am on the macbook pro everything is smooth af, when I connect the xternal monitor I find the animation quit choppy.

Is the promotion dellusion from the macbook?

Your monitor is only 60hz while the one built into your Macbook is able to do 120hz.

Your Macbook won't magically turn your Dell monitor into a 120hz monitor (unfortunately) :)

Check that it's not doing 30Hz instead of 60 due to bad cable or something.
I don't think just going down to 60Hz makes everything "choppy".
