I have a MacBok Pro 16 M1 Max (had it from day one) and use it most of the time on battery, charging it when it drops low (sometimes I use it while charging but mostly it will sit on the side charging unused).

Was using the original 140W Apple charger and MagSafe cable but noticed that it would sometimes drop off charge and sometimes go on and off repeatedly. So I assumed it was a magnetic issue and swapped the cable for a good quality Anker 140W USB-C cable so I knew the connection was made when charging (but kept the Apple charge brick). Was fine for a while but then same again, plug to charge and charge would be on/off/on/off over and over again.

Today I swapped the brick for an Anker 120W one and used the Apple USB-C to MagSafe cable, and it seems to be fine now.

I assume this is a fault with the Apple brick, but has anyone else had this problem?

I had this issue when using an Anker USB-C 100w cable after upgrading to their 747 adaptor (was previously using another 3rd party super compact 65w adaptor). Thought it was the 747's switching mechanism but after some trial and error it went away with an Apple USB-C cable, yet the Anker cable worked with an Apple 96W adaptor but occasionally acted up with the 65w adaptor I had previously used it with without issue. Weird.

My take is the laptop's power regulation circuit had become temperamental, possibly the 747 set it off somehow. By the time I turned it back into Apple to upgrade to my M3 Max it had been stable for a couple months using just an Apple cable and adaptor, but who knows if it would have gotten worse.
