Hi,

I have the 16inch Macbook Pro with M1 Max and when I wake it up after a long break the keyboard lights don't automatically come on and I have to go to settings and adjust it manually for it to come back on. Anyone else having this issue? Could it be OS X or is it a sensor that's not functioning properly? I also hate the fact that there's no keyboard light adjusting on the function keys anymore, so I have to adjust this manually.

If the issue still persists after restarting into safe mode, then take it in to an Apple Store. There might be a software bug, I would try booting into safe mode or possibly resetting the device. My 2019 16-inch has no issues at all, so you might have a defective sensor or something.

Did you solve this? Because I have the exact same problem (but my MBP is the regular 16" Pro).
I've noticed that after I have activated the light in the menu bar, it works for a while and I cannot see a pattern on when it stops working again :/

Nope still have the same issue. The lights turn on after I close and open the lid once again.

I haven't figured it out still, but my machine works like you described: it usually turns on again after closing and re-opening the lid. Irritating none the less!

My 14" MBP exhibits this behavior - I thought it was just my inexperience with the latest Macs.

until you solve the issue, add the keyboard brightness slider in the menu bar so you don't have to go into settings every time

I haven't noticed the issue lately after updating to Ventura 13.0.1. If I see it again I will repost.

Mine is doing this on Ventura. I have 13.0.1 on my 14 MBP Pro. Seems to happen when I open it up after not using overnight.

Well, my dad just got a M1 Pro and has the same issue as you guys. Its funny, because my M1 Pro is fine.
My issue is gone after the latest update. Not sure if it was the update or what happened exactly but haven't noticed it for a while now.

If there is an Apple Store near you, go and ask if they are able to fix it. I think it isn't a big problem. Have you tried to re-install the macOS? My MacBook is running Monterey (12.5) and it is working very well, but my friend's Mac (MBP 14) running Ventura (13.0) and has lots of problems, so I think this problem was caused by the software :)

One more thing to be mentioned, there are 6 MacBook Pros with different chips and keyboard languages in my office, and every of them has different issues 🤣, so just relax, it's ok.
