Hello all,

Sorry this has been answered so many times already but please could you give me advise on my usage and suitability via the poll and comments as I’m looking to purchase a new MacBook Pro this weekend?
Many thanks in advance.

So really I know it’s going to sound bad but this is just my personal preference so again please don’t try and talk me out of it. There’s many reasons but I am certain I want the pro over the air.

I’m looking to upgrade from my MacBook Pro Touch Bar 2018 model which was spec’d out and in hind sight not worth all the extra money back then.

So I use it for emails, general web browsing, but mainly gaming too.
With that said would the new base models handle say a game like Sims 4 with all expansions fine?

16GB RAM should be more than enough for Sims 4. The only real question is whether the 512GB SSD in the base model would be enough for the game and expansions, plus anything else you might want to store on the computer.

I see… thank you this makes sense. Would having an external hard drive fix this ?

I would actually recommend an external SSD over a HDD in that scenario, mainly because of the significantly faster transfer rates. I put a 2TB Samsung M.2 SSD into an enclosure I picked up at Best Buy, and it is wickedly fast at both reads and writes.

As said.... for extra storage don't spend it on Apple just get an external enclosure and ssd. There are a few threads in the mini section on what to use. I have a Acasis (TBU405) 40Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure with a Samsung 980 Pro 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 M.2 SSD (Tests in Blackmagic on a mini M2: steady at W:2800+ MB/s, R:2700+/- MB/s)

Thanks all, I did actually look at this too if I do go for this base. However I did look yesterday at my current MacBook to see I have barely any space left on the current 512GB I have. I usually back up using Time Machine etc but when I do get the new model whichever I pick I’m going to start from new to avoid wasted storage etc.
