Hi all, I got my MacBook Pro M2 Max yesterday, it's great! Still getting things verified and tuned...
Note 1 - I used the migration from another Mac to get all my stuff over. That worked well. One caveat - so I grabbed a cable to connect the 2 Macs, knowing that's the fastest. There is a little link on the progress screen, that regularly tests any connections you have - cable, Ethernet, wireless, etc....and it tells you the speed. Nice! Anyway - I look at its progress after about 10 minutes to see how it's going, and it says "64 hours to complete"! Oh no! I checked, and the cable I was using LOOKS like a Thunderbolt cable, but it's NOT a Thunderbolt cable! No little Thunderbolt icon on it. I changed cables while it was working, and the time went down to like 30-45 minutes or something. Whew. Lesson learned, cables now labeled in my cable drawer!
Note 2 - Pet peeve. Why is it that Messages never is completely sync'd? Seems like there is that period where the new computer is up, maybe/maybe not on one's iCloud account yet, maybe/maybe not set up to be a recipient of messages from one's iPhone yet, and messages get lost. Ugh - being old that bugs me lol. I have tried the restarts, turn "enable messages in iCloud" off and on (and it does report downloading messages, it just misses about 4 for me, 2 with photos) I even tried signing out of Apple ID on the Messages settings dialog - no luck. Is there a reliable way to make sure I have every message and thread that's on my old MacBook Pro ?
Note 3 - Coconut appears to not be able to tell the manufacture date of the laptop. It says "not readable, see picture below. But down below, you see a date of Han 2. Small bug I guess.
That's it for now - I really like this laptop!
