Hey everyone,

I was wondering if someone here could steer me towards a link or site of how to keep the MacBook Pro in good shape. I know with regular PCs, we defrag, check for errors (I have norton anti-virus/utility installed)... what is the equivalent on the Mac?

The laptop is used specifically for music only. I run Ableton, I am recording audio, and I run some music firewire interfaces, and a keyboard controller. BTW, I have a Santa Rosa MBP 2.2GHz, and it's just absolutely beautiful. No problems at all...

How should I keep it up and running nice and smoothly?

Cheers,
-Phil

If you're going to charge your battery and leave it connected for an extended period of time (like overnight), put it into sleep mode instead of turning it off. This will keep the current moving through the battery and help it last longer. I've had my battery for 9 months and it still holds a 95% charge.

besides the battery

There's no need to defrag with OSX. The exception is if for some reason you needed to partition a big chunk of your HD (it has to be contiguous). The program of choice for that is iDefrag, whose developers also make iPartition (i think it's Coriolis that makes it).

Also, to keep running smoothly, it helps to run the maintenance scripts for your mac. Some tools to do this are MacJanitor (Free) and Cocktail (shareware). Also there's Applejack (which runs in Single user mode, and also cleans up caches, file permissions, etc.).

+1 for iDefrag. I used it before and after I installed/deleted a Bootcamp partition, and that helped.

Also I like to run Onyx once in a while, just keep my MBP fit for fight :)

just reset permissions every coupla weeks (disk utility), restart every coupla weeks, log out every coupla days, and youll be fine! make sure you dont leave resource hungry apps open (i.e. safari) and itl be good.

You are recording and editing audio to external HD's and not your OSX HD right?? :apple:
