Hello, my MacBook Pro running Big Sur 11.6 has changed it’s name adding “(2)” as a suffix to the name I gave it. Around the time this happened I got a security message that a “new” MacBook Pro was being used with my Apple ID. I was a little concerned about this but closed the message. I changed the name, eliminating the (2) in <sharing> but it remains when I view my MacBook in my iCloud account. There’s no performance issue but frustrating that this happened outside of my control.

Your iCloud account will catch up to the name change. I can't say how long it takes but it's not immediate.
