macbook pro not recognizing ipod or external hard drive

so right now my macbook pro won't recognize my ipod, external hard drive, and it wouldn't recognize my mini when i put it into target disk mode, anyone have a similar problem? when i checked out the disk util, it would just load for hours until i unplugged the device, but in the system profiler, it would recognize the device once unplugged.

It has happened to me once or twice in the past 18 months. Rebooting fixed it.

thanks! it took forever to boot and restart but it works fine now
