Well, i am selling my Powerbook to get a Macbook Pro so that i can run windows and play windows games etc.

I was hoping for the Meroms to come out today and they didn't so now i don't know how long i could be waiting for them....

i don't really care about the performance of the Meroms but am wondering if i buy a Macbook Pro now and the Meroms come out in a month how much money will i lose on the Pro because a newer model came out?

What should i do???? i need to play Oblivion NOW!!!!

thanks

If you are a gamer maybe you should wait for merom. I'm not such a high end user (and apparantely) I dont need it

All the speculation points to Merom being released on Sept 12th at the Paris Apple Expo Keynote....

Cheers

I disagree, as many said for WWDC, why would they release a consumer based product(New iPods, iMac, MacBooks) at a Pro Developer's Conference? The Paris Expo is for the consumer, it just doesn't make sense for them to launch a MacBook Pro there. I believe there will be a silent upgrade between now and the Expo, but certainly not at the Expo. I bet it will be released on one of the following days:
August 22nd(least likely)
August 29th(more likely)
September 5th(most likely)
I guarentee we will see a new iPod at the expo, as well as a new iMac.

well, considering they have released pro hardware at paris before, it most certianly is not unlikely. (first gen aluminum powerbook was announced at Paris 2003)

Still, I think the iMac and iPods will be updated at Paris...if thats the case theres no way they are going to release all of that plus a new MacBook Pro at Paris...

I can see them upgrading it quietly soon, and probably mentioning it and the 64-bit thing at Paris Expo.

Be patient! you might as well wait it out.

Everyone is making out that this will be a massive update (So i've heard/read it will not be) The big update will be next year. So I'd say buy now or wait till Rosa next year (or whatever its called)

I say get one now, Merom isn't that big of a deal.

lets get this straightened out.
some say its not a big deal
some say it will be a big deal in the future when 64bit apps are present
some say its the best thing since sliced bread
some dont know what the hell it is

I guarantee we will see a new iPod at the expo, as well as a new iMac.

Well why then would they just bring out the iMac and iPod, if these are consumer items and so is the Macbook Pro, then surely why not?

I didn't state that it definitely would happen on the 12th, but from all the speculation on MR, its what most people thinks is happening. However, my own personal view is similar to yours, that it will be a 'silent' upgrade, as I've mentioned on various threads before, similar to the bump in speed from 1.83GHz to 2 + 2.16GHz...

Lets wait and see!

Cheers

well......i decided to get a Macbook Pro i just ordered it today and ended up getting a call from the company i ordered it from saying they were backordered on the matte screens and only had a glossy one in stock, they told me i could wait and they might have some matte ones in next week so i said i would cause i don't want to deal with the glare issue

dont wait.

just get it, because once merom is out, all the rev b problems will start up, etc.

and its not THAT much of a speed difference, and its not like the current MBP is obsolete right now.

just buy it.

By the way I should mention, it is very likely they will update the GPU in the next MBP. The current MBP uses a ATI Radeon X1600 w/ 128MB or 256MB. From what I hear the former is very poor for Oblivion and the latter is mediocre, but even so, the GPU in the MBP is extremely underclocked. If you wanted to reclock it, you could with a program called ATITool, which would definitely increase your results substantially. That said, the X1600 was barely a mid-range chip when the MBP was released...they will very likely use an X1800 or nVidia's equivalent in the next MBP. If you are planning on using your MBP for Oblivion, I would definitely say wait, especially because they will be released in a few short weeks. Good luck with your decision.

Apple wouldn't allow any previous MBP first gen problems to arise because Apple is known to learn from their mistakes.

You mean like the broken magnetic latches, warped track pads, and white-spotted LCD's plaguing every revision of the Al Powerbooks?
