While I was packing up my MBP and its power brick in my bag before I went back to the dorm, I noticed where the brick hooks up to either the "duck bill" or grounded cord, there was a small hairline fracture about 1 cc. Since I use the "duck bill" at home, I leave the grounded cord hooked up at my desk at school. Possibly, hooking and disconnecting the brick from it might not be so healthy for the power brick.

Hearing one story of a MacBook Pro power adapter bursting into flames, I'm wondering if calling Apple is necessary. You think they'll replace it? Like I said, the damage might be from unhooking the brick again and again. Some wear and tear that works into the warranty?

Yes, the power brick for one of my iBooks has a couple of hairline fractures in this area. I don't think it's really anything to worry about...my fiancée and I are just a bit more careful about how we connect and disconnect the attachments now. Less twisting and more pulling.
