So I'm sitting at the airport on Tuesday playing around with my MacBook Pro (1.83Ghz) that I bought less than two weeks ago. (Purchased Friday 4/14)
Everything was fine; I found a free WiFi hot spot; and then the screen went black! Battery was around 80% when this happened.
I poked the power button; the light on the case latch button flashed; I heard the DVD drive spin for 1/2 second; then nothing. Tried this several times; eventually nothing happens.
I plugged into the wall and was able to boot. Once it came up, I notice that the battery is not being recognized. (x thru the battery icon in the upper right hand corner, dropped down the menu it indicates no battery installed)
I called AppleCare; walked thru the usual reset the firmware (Command Option O F, wait for three chimes) Reset the PMU ( remove the battery, unplug the power, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds)
Those things did yield a slight change in that the battery was recognized again, indicating an 83% charge. However; the light on the power supply plug remains green and the battery doesn't ever goto charge mode. Battery icon on screen indicates calculating... Still won't run on battery however.
The tech I was speaking with offered to have it repaired; but I told him I'd rather just return to the store for a new one as it was less than two weeks old! I'm considering an upgrade to the new 17" model to get the Firewire 800 port along with the other upgrades. I returned the MacBook to CompUSA today. I'm waiting for them to get another computer back in stock. (They had the 1.83Ghz model, but I'm going to at least upgrade to the 2.0 15"...)
Anybody else have a similar problem with their MacBook? The tech I spoke with indicated he'd never heard of such a problem. However the sales guy at CompUSA said he'd heard of this, but never so soon...
Is this another reoccuring problem, or just an isolated incident? I'm hoping for isolated incident!
