Macbook/pro Protectors

I've been looking at the different macbook/pro protector, and was wondering what other people had and what they thought of them. I don't want my macbookpro 15", that I'll be getting before next semester to get really scrached up... I'm the type of person that is really hard on my things, not that I don't do my best to take care of my things, (just clumzy).

P.S. pics would be great to see.

I have a Speck Products red case for mine, and while I'm pleased with it, it's not 100% what I wanted. At the time it was one of the few cases that completely protected the case of the MBP, but there are other options available now.

You really need to determine what you want, that is, do you want something that covers the whole computer all the time (Speck or other hard/soft cases) or a sleeve that protects it during transport and storage.

I really like the look of the aluminum case as it comes from Apple, which is probably the biggest reason why I'm not 100% happy with the Speck case. I just don't like covering up the case. I have a 15" G4 iBook that I have only had a RadTech "sleevz" on for the two years I have owned it, and it's still in very, very good condition.

I guess it's up to what you want to spend and the type of protection you're looking for. I suspect, based on what you say in your post, that you probably need a hard case to protect the outside of the MBP.

Hope that gives you some direction as to what to look for...

I have a keyboard protector, a Marware protector for the wristwrests, a clear film applied to the whole exterior of the computer, and a Brenthaven case.

man, you know about protection it seems :D what kind of film do you have for the exterior? where did you got it from?

InvisibleShield is awesome stuff, although I would question how effective it would be in protecting the MBP case against physical damage. I have a Speck hard shell cover on mine, and while I'm not terribly excited about it as I really like the looks of the MBP case, it does a fantastic job of protecting the case from wear and tear as well as physical damage.

(Disclaimer: I have used InvisibleShield products on iPods and still and video cameras for several years, so I am very familiar with the product and its limitations.)

The invisibleSHIELD is great at protecting from scratches and scuffs, but no, it won't protect as well as an acrylic case.

If you're not excited about something that's semi-permanent like ShieldZone's film or a hard shell case like the Speck, consider a "Sleevz" from RadTech.

I have a 15" G4 PowerBook that I have used a Sleevz on since I got it, and it is in near perfect condition. Of course, it's only good for storage, but it keeps those little dings and scratches you can pick up when carrying or transporting your notebook to a minimum. Not to mention, it's made out of the microfiber material, so you can use it to clean the computer and screen as well.

Thanks again guys, I think I'm going to get the Marware handrest, and some type of sleeve or clear plasic case. Plus when I take it to school I'll also have it in a Dakine backpack too. (by the way if you ever need a backpack or your kids need one, Dakine is the way to go you pay more but its a life time warranty, pay for quality :apple:;) )

Do you have any pictures of your MBP with the clear shield? I can't find a picture of this. Also, does the shield make your laptop feel different, as in different in a bad way?
 
The invisible shield thing is so dumb. I bought a 12" aluminum PB, an iBook, a Treo smartphone, and an iPod at about the same time in December 2004, and I got invisible shields for the Treo and iPod. Within one month, I had wished I had gotten it for the iBook, too, but even after over 2 years now the only physical damage (and I use it 24/7, take it everywhere, and really put it to some use in the real world) was from a drop, and that was a dent/marring of the bottom case (which an acrylic case, had one existed, would have prevented)... and some minor removal of the guide icons next to the ports on the side. Not a scratch on it--or if there was, it was invisible due to the matte aluminum texture.

Spend your $54 getting a good sleeve (I recommend a Foofbag!) and an acrylic case from Speck.
 
Macbook exterior skin protector

I am looking for an exterior skin protector for my Macbook. Anyone know where to find one? They are so hard to find

The shield is actually multiple pieces for the bottom of the case. It doesn't interfere with opening the case/removing the battery at all.

It makes it fill a little smoother. It provides a little resistance to your fingertips moving across, so it's similar to the feeling of a laminated piece of paper. It definately isn't a bad look or feeling at all. I'll try to get some pictures this evening or tomorrow.

DON"T get the marward palmrest - get the MOSHI palmguard. The latter is harder (more protective), more durable, looks much better, has moshi written in TINY text in the lower right corner as opposed to huge marware text, and includes a really nice trackpad film (that looks great on white, not great on black trackpads) which actually enhances the trackpad feel. Check it out, I really think it's s great product and much nicer than the marware one I had.
