Since Apple RAM is way too expensive, I plan to order my MBP with the stock 512MB and add two 1GB sticks -- one of which would replace the 512MB stick. I just want to make sure I won't have to disassemble the entire computer to replace the stock RAM. Long story short -- are both RAM slots on the MacBook Pro user-accessible?

EDIT: Never Mind -- I downloaded the MacBook Pro Manual and it answered my question -- From the manual:

"Your computer has two memory slots that you can access by removing the memory door in the battery bay."

That would have to mean both slots are user accessable, huh? ;)

is it cheaper to get the 512 ram, and then get 1 gig stick later?, or just upgrade it when buying the macbook ?

Well, if you want 1GB of RAM as a single SO-DIMM, it's $200 when ordering the Macbook. So, it's cheaper to just get it with the stock 512MB, and then order two 1GB sticks from elsewhere. I just got a 1GB stick from newegg for $91 shipped, so ya know. Apple asks waaaay too much for their RAM.

wow thats a good deal, thats what i will do, thanks!!!

Make sure it's compatible, of course! Newegg has a great customer review section, so you can check and see if others have gotten the RAM to work in their Macs. Or, you can order form a place like datamem.com or crucial.com that guarantees their RAM to work in Macs. It's a bit pricier, but it's cheaper than Apple and it's guaranteed to work.
