Macbook Pro Ram and Crucial.com

Apple's prices on RAM are insane (like 700 dollars??)
and crucial has like, 4g of ram for 50 dollars

just curious, is the quality of the crucial good?
the price difference is huge between apple and the third party, just curious what the performance difference is

Crucial is actually the most recommended brand name to buy RAM for.

From what I hear it's good. I went with a Kingston 2GB chip trying to upgrade this one and had to only use it. So beware of that. But it was only $40. If I had a newer MBP, I could've put 4GB on here for $80. Hard to beat that.

Yes, Apple's prices for memory are insane. You'd think they were putting DDR3 on there. I do also question their iPhone/iPod Touch pricing scheme (does each of those flash increments REALLY cost them anywhere close to $100? Why is it an extra $100 for another 8GB on the iPhone but also an extra $100 for another 16GB on the iPod Touch???)

Alas, more RAM is good. I think it's kicking the speed up on HandBrake and is allowing me to run a lot of stuff at once without trouble.

Yeah I do a lot of other stuff with world of warcraft windowd
and its nice to not lag really bad
It's good to see a reliable place to buy RAM that doesn't totally screw you on prices

Kind of off topic
but I just recently found out that my brother gets an actual price discount on certain companys since he works at circuit city
so he pays what it costs the company to make it, not what they charge
so on certain items, like an 8000 dollar TV he only pays i think 2800
It's so crazy

To hell with Crucial. The ******s sent me a busted memory chip which was physically damaged. I sent it back and they said that the warranty doesn't cover physical damage. ******s.

Corsair, Mushkin, Kingston are all name brands that are fantastic buys. Also www.newegg.com www.mwave.com are two good on-line retailers.

I'll do some price comparing for kingston, which is what i usually buy.

Crucial

I got my MPB last month. Prior to the delivery of the computer I ordered 4gb from of RAM from Crucial. It arrived the day my mac did. the first thing I did with the mac even before playing with the mac was swap out the memory. It has worked like a champ. Not ONE issue. Crucial is a safe bet. This forum is a GREAT resource and the Crucial recommendation was one of them.

yea i was looking at kingston on newegg
just decided i think crucial will by fine
its less expensive
and i doubt i will have any problems
ive heard way more good than bad
