So I was installing ram in my MBP 17 today and I stripped one of the srews. To get it out I had to bend the door and spin it to take the screw out. I messed up the door pretty bad but it still fits on the computer but has a dent in it. I was wondering if its a good idea to leave it, or if any of you knew a way to get a new one.

see I'm not sure if it is messing with anything.

pretty annoying if I have to send it in.

do they charge a bunch of money for that?

and do they take care of it? I don't want to get it back with a scratch accross it.

I believe the door acts as an RF gasket, keeping radio interference out, and in. You should replace the door.

It would be bad if you were in the middle of writing something to the hard drive and your cell phone rang, inducing just enough current in the logic board to crash your laptop.

It's extremely likely. But it does happen. :p

LMFAO I thought I was the only one who couldn't unscrew a bolt lol. I did the same thing w/my Pro. I had to rip the door out w/the screw in it thought, when I stripped the top of the screw and couldn't acess the door I got so mad and just tore it off after doing the other screws. You can deff see how weak/prone to dents the alliuminium really is, to get out the massive bend on my door all I had to do was bite down and straightend it with my teeth, really its that weak.

Also, does your ram door get REALLLY HOT like mine? After playing wow for like 45 min I swear I can cook bacon on the ram door and a few eggs on the top left corner near the speaker.

Temperatures high enough to cook bacon or eggs would most likely burn your hand and the desk.

There have been a few (joke) blog posts about people who cooked breakfast on their 'Books though.
