Hi,

Im having battery issues, where the laptop will shutdown with 20% of battery left.

I have tried multiple times of cycling the battery charge as per online tutorials but it eventually comes back to the same thing.

The wierd thing is that it works 1 or 2 times then it goes back to shutting down with 20% left.

Any help welcomed.

I agree with both - either you should replace the battery, or replace the Mac. Just depends on how it’s working for you otherwise - if it’s in good condition, fast enough, enough storage, it’s worth the cost of a battery. In the meantime, consider 30% the point where you need to plug in.

If you are in the USA, you might be able to get the $199 battery replacement at a brick-n-mortar Apple Store (IF they still have replacement batteries available for that model, unsure).

Make an appt. for the genius bar, take it in, let them have a look at it.

I had the same issue on the same computer in September 2022. I went to the Apple Store and they replaced my battery, keyboard, and top case for $199. It's like new now.

The store will replace the battery so long as they can get a replacement kit (because it was on the "vintage" list which means Apple will replace depending upon parts availability). With a popular product like the MacBook Pro, there is generally plenty of part availability. However, once the product gets moved to the "obsolete" list (which will happen soon if not already), I do not think Apple will do the repair. So, you should move fast if you want to replace the battery through Apple.
