I'm trying to clone a MacBook Pro Retina 2017 using Partition Magic.

(Target disk = external USB SSD)

However, two NVMe disks show up

256GB NVMe
and
8192B NVMe

Are they two separate disks?

(BTW, when I go to clone up the 256GB one it the process ends after about 5 seconds reporting "failed to create partition table on this disk"

Disk does not copy in target disk mode.

Any ideas would be great!

Did you ever find a solution? I'm also having cloning issues with this model.

Trying to clone with Parted Magic (Linux) and had success with Clonezilla on a 2015 MBP, this one however throws errors and no luck with ddrescue. First attempt took an unusually long time and the clone showed up as MBR rather than GPT, then I tried just copying the partition table with sgdisk. No errors from sgdisk but fdisk complains that the partitions "don't start on physical sector boundary" and I can't resize the main partition beyond 14GB.
