hi there, im having a few problems with my macbook that have slowley progressed over the past month or two.

i bought this 15" macbook pro early this january brand new and it was running perfectly with no problems untill recently. the problem is that it is starting to run alot slower than usual, especially on the start up which now takes 1.09 mins, with 37.7 secs just to get to the apple logo which it used to go to straight away! ive also noticed problems with the apple remote control, which will often not recieve what i have pressed untill a good 5 mins later. and lastley it has also been crashing quite a bit, and already has twice this morning which has stopped me being able to search the forum properly for previous threads of this matter.

yesterday i cleaned out my hardrive, getting rid of anything i didnt need in an attempt to help it run more smoothley but as of yet i have not noticed a difference. i have never dropped or bumped the laptop and take extremely good care of it, although it does get alot of use.

i understand that computers do slow down with time, but when i spent this much onit it has started to get frustrating, so i was just wandering if there was anything else people could recommend before i consider taking it back to where i bought it?

the specs are as follow:
2.16ghz
2gb ram
100gb hd

thanks in advance
alex

oh, and excuse me if some of the spelling is off, dyslexic hah.

Try resetting the PRAMhttp://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238.

Also, have you repaired disk permissions at all? Go to Disk Utility and repair permissions for your Mac HD.

Finally, if all else fails, as a last option try:

An Archive and Install.

It replaces all your system files, while keeping your user data intact. You won't even notice anything different - all your files, background, layout etc will be exactly the same.

You might have to reinstall a program or two though.

To do this, put in OSX CD1 and restart the computer, and hold down the C key during boot. Select Archive and Install from the installation options.

no i havnt really tried much besides clearing it out of crap, i will try what you have suggested and let you know how i got on. cheers.

Edit: Ok resetting the pram seems to have done it! thanks alot for the help, and ive now realised that i have only been having the startup problem since i uninstalled bootcamp.

ah no, still crashing

startup problem seems to be solved though

Did you try an archive and install?

Also can you explain further by "crashes" ? If you are getting crashes then it is possible you might have dodgy RAM, there is various RAM tests you can carry out, I'll digg up some in a bit if an Archive and Install doesn't work.

ive yet to try an An Archive and Install, so will look into that now.

by crashes i mean a grey/fuzzy screen will appear on the screen and scroll down covering the screen, followed by a message telling me an error has occoured and i need to restart my mac, this hasnt happend so much recently.

what its doing alot of at the moment is freezing (its done it about 8 times today) alot when im using itunes or watching videos on youtube.

it also restarted randomly yesterday about 3 times in a row, but thats been the first time its done it and hasnt since.

thanks for the help and i will let you know how i get on after archive and install.

How long is normal (estimate) for a boot up? I guess my old PC is running alot faster than my MBP :confused:not just for the start up (of course my PC is running Windows), but also for the programs
