Hi All

I'm about two weeks into my new Macbook Pro and I cannot fault it in the slightest. Anyway, I seem to have set up my screen via the OSX calibration utility to correspond to my tastes. (ie I prefer a whiter more contrasted display). I have set this up, but for some reason watching DVD's and other mpegs seem off color. In other words the black is extremely dark and shadowed, there is a yellow tinge and the whites seem off. (This is particularly the case with the new Narnia DVD and the Lost season 1 box set). But when I go to desktop, the color profile seems great.

Has anyone got any ideas as to how to optimize the color profile on the Macbook so as to have a general optimal setting both for viewing the desktop and internet and also watching DVD's. Moreover, is there any utility that you can recommend to set this up?

I may be a bit pedantic on this, and I have become somewhat obsessed with optimizing the setting on the screen profile. However the MBP has such a top quality screen that I just want to enjoy it to its maximum.

I also have a problem with some DVD playback being a bit grainy... Any ideas?

Thanks a lot

Do DVDs look "normal" under the default profile? If so just switch profiles when you watch one.

I'll try that when I get back from the office. Are there any codecs that can improve dvd playback? Both VLC player and OSX DVD player playback in similar quality. Also, could it be the quality of the DVD disk? (does the quality of a DVD-R vary the quality of playback of movies)?

Only "pro" panels can be calibrated to get color perfect profiles.

Pro stuff used in top end Eizo LCD monitors. Cheap bottom of the barrel consumer ones found in the ACD and Mac laptops (remember the one with lines? How much of a clue stick does one need to know they are using cheap crap?).. basically just forget it and accept it for what it really is. Cheap crap.

Great response, thanks. I'll just go and bin my piece of cheap crap on your recommendation. I think you categorize it as cheap crap because you'll probably never be in a position financially to acquire one....

Lol, last I checked I even got rid of a 2 weeks old PB G4 at a loss after Apple failed to address the issue to my satisfaction.

What is it you were saying again?

As for financial standing, well all I know is even people like Bill Gates didn't get to where he is today beta testing shoddy hardware...
