Hi. I have a SR 2,4ghz Macbook Pro, with 4gb of crucial RAM. My laptop is shutting down a lot, randomly. A grey screen wipes down saying that I shoul restart the computer by pressing and holding the restart button. What do you guys think that may be the problem? RAM? My MOTU firewire soundcard? I had these shutdowns with my other Macbook Pro too, a 2,33ghz one, so I doubt it it the RAM. Everything is pointing to either the soundcard, or some kind of bug in OS X. Thanks in advance.

There may be information in your panic log that will help identify the problem. Hardware/RAM problems usually manifest themselves as crashes in seemingly random points throughout the kernel. But if the call stacks in your panic log look similar or related, you should be able to narrow the problem down to a specific device, driver, or application.
this is a common problem for many macbook pro owners since the 10.4.10 update. I don't know if this applies to you...but for me at least it mostly happens when i'm wireless and not plugged into my charger...then i usually get dropping connections and the grey screen of death....its a software problem though since running windows via boot camp has no problems...hope this helps theres a lot of topics about this problem...

At least this method works for me thanks to that guy who found the temporary solution
I have the latest MBP and before I bumped the ram to 3GB I got the GSOD twice but that was only at super ram intensive periods where I was trying to do too much at once. Since I've upgraded... no problems.

Are you using a MOTU firewire interface? I use a MOTU Firewire 410. It is highly recommended that you DO NOT hot swap the unit. MOTU released an announcement about this. It can actually damage your Logic board apparently. It recommends that you power down before plugging your Firewire audio device in or unplugging it.
