I went to my system preferences and turned speakable items on to see how it functions, and now it never shuts off. Obviously i've set it to off. Now no matter what i do, the thing tells me what's selected, every little thing i do is spoken, and none of my volume/brightness controls on the keyboard work. Upon startup the brightness function is as low it gets, and i can barely see the screen.
Also, in the apple menu, shut down is there twice, and so is logoff and restart. I'm running a Macbook Pro, 2.16, with Leopard. I tried googling this answer but I got no results.
Please help, the speech is so annoying
***** Fixed ******
The problem was that I somehow turned on "Voiceover" as well in the Universal Access setting of System Preferences. Turning that off fixed the problem
