It seems like there's quite a large delay for the MacBook Pros (5-7 business days?) and I was wondering if anyone knew why. Is it just because they're in such high demand? And is there anything I can do to speed up the process, like certain upgrades that take longer to do.
I'm ordering the 2.2 GHz 15-inch one, and I'm making the screen glossy, as opposed to matte. I'm also upgrading the drive to 160 GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm. (those are the only upgrades) I'll be doing video editing so that's what the upgraded drive is for. Is there really any significant difference between this drive and the standard one? If its the thing that is causing the delay I could easily get an external HD–which I may be doing anyway.

The reason for the 'cutting corners for speed' is I'll be needing it fairly quick and from experience of ordering from Apple it usually takes a week once its shipped to end up on my doorstep. If these upgrades won't differ any in how quick it ships out then please tell me.

Thanks in advance.

5-7 days seems fast to me. iPhone wait is 2-4 weeks. I waited 5 weeks for my MBP when I ordered it. My mom was in labor with me for 8 hours... yup 5-7 business days is fast.:)

Sorry to through on another question here, but what is the difference between the two hard drives? And also, I'll be buying an external display for my laptop sometime in the near future so is it even worth making the screen glossy versus matte? I don't really know the difference between the two.

More capacity, if you're talking about the 120GB vs. the 160GB hard drives. And I would suggest getting the matte screen, because the external display you'll get will more than likely be matte, so it'll be what you're used to.

Okay thanks.

Does it still ask you what means you want it to ship by? i.e. Priority etc.
Because if it does I'll just bring put it to priority so it gets here faster.
Thanks.

I got mine about 36 hours (if I remember correctly) after it was shipped from Shanghai with regular shipping. FedEx rocks. I'm assuming expedited will be even quicker.

Ahhh, another Albertan!

I ordered on June 5th, and waited until around the 28th before it actually shipped out of Shanghai, it hasn't arrived but it is en-route. I did call Apple to find out about the apparent delay, Colin (Apple phone voice) told me that two things were contributing to the delay, the first was the iPod promotion for schools had caused a backlog of orders, and the second was the CTO (glossy screen).

Well, thank you very much. I guess I won't order the glossy screen on it because I need it fairly quickly and all the authorized re-sellers near me don't sell it with the upgrades I want. So I'm assuming that it isn't worth getting the glossy display for all the extra time it will take???

I'll be ordering it (hopefully) by the end of next week, and I want it by August
and need it by August fifth. (I'm doing a major presentation and right now have nothing to work on it with.
If I order it with upgrading the hard drive to 160 GB 5400 rpm when i would arrive? I'll be ordering around the ninth (or so) and like I aid would be needing it by August.
Thanks.
