Hey all,

I just came back from the apple authorized dealer. Two differents problems.

1- The problem was that the MBP cover was not aligning perfectly while closing, the left part seems slightly uneven. Take a look at the left side of this MBP, mine was like this.

Do you think this is acceptable? Is your macbook pro somehow like mine?

Take a look at this MBP, this is how it should look while closed:

The technician showed me a bunch of MBP's that were like mine, but I told him I was not sattisfied with a $2000+ toy that was not perfect. He told me they would replace the part (I dont know which).

2- Second case, they told me that my battery seemed like the ones that exploded! WTF! they determined this since my batery was veryyy slightly opened, a new battery should come in the next days.

What do you all think? Are these problems "normal" in the new MBP SR?

Personally I agree with you - if you spend that much money on something, it should be perfect. I know I wouldn't settle for anything less. The exploding battery thing is particularly alarming, as it's a fire hazard. I think most people would recommend that if you're sure it's one of those batteries, disconnect your MBP from the mains, turn it off, take out the battery, and put it somewhere safe.

This is very coincidental because I am actually experiencing the same two things. However, my lid is not as bad as yours. Mine is only lifted on the left by about half of yours - almost unnoticeable.

My battery seems to bulge near the meter ever so slightly. I'll keep an eye on it as well.

I can't believe the crap you people take from Apple. Replace the part? I don't think so, I want a replacement! I'd have my hands around the technician's throat.

Which makes me realise that hanging on to my old PowerBook and not buying an MBP may actually be keeping me out of jail. ;)

Thanks for your comments. It seems like I'm not the only one.

Actually that photo is not mine, although my MBP looks similar, maybe a little less.

Tomorrow I am going to the dealer to see what's going on.

I cant take a replacement since I'm outside the US, the authorized apple dealer only repairs parts. What would you recommend? They are fully backed by apple, and the warranty will NOT be void. So If I ever get back to the states or anywhere else the applecare will be the same.

Don't let them boss you around, you've got to realise that they are holding your money; and quite a bit of it at that. I'd be absolutely furious if it were me.

But do you really think it is so out of place to change a part?
Also, do you think that the warranty stipulates a whole computer replacement in these cases?

I can't see how they could fix that problem without replacing the whole entire case and the screen. They might as well give you another machine if they have an ounce of common sense.

Sure, I fully understand your point. its somehow senseless.

But I've heard that only on very RARE cases they have exchanged the computer.
Remember they are an apple authorized center... if they screw it...

I love apple.. but shame for their QA..
I'll keep you updated, but their answer will probably be "this is normal for a MBP"

just way for them to say so.. I will grab the technician and crush his head against the floor (sighs* I sound like a wacko...) how can a $2000+ laptop come like that!
