Macbook Pro SR LCD scratches covered by Applecare?

Ok I got the Macbook Pro SR LCD and I've been getting these scratch imprints left by the keys of the keyboard when you close the laptop lid. Like the scratches match the shape of the keys and spacebar exactly on the location of contact.

I don't have Applecare yet, but I don't think my warranty would cover this but if I buy Applecare will Apple replace the screen for me? I didn't think the laptop screen would actually touch the keys.

It shouldn't be putting too much force onto the screen for two basic reasons:

1. The screen is above the keyboard, so in order to leave in imprint, the keyboard would have to overcome gravity.

2. There is a very slight gap between the keyboard and the screen, but it's not much at all. Do you ever put more force onto your screen when you close your mbp? Do you sometimes think it's closed unevenly and then put a little more pressure to close it properly? This could be causing the imprint. Also, if you put something on top of your mbp while it's closed, then chances are the screen is being pushed down onto the keyboard.

You can try taking it in to an Apple Store, but I somehow doubt they'll repair this, seeing as how it's most likely user error.

Hmmm I've just open and shut it normally and don't make any effort to slam it with too much force. I don't put things on top of it.

Well I can't see the imprints when I turn on the computer except for when viewing a black image and even then it's not really noticible that it becomes distracting.

So I guess if becomes much worse then I'll just wait til next year when my warranty expires and buy a replacement screen and install it myself for a fraction of teh price that it would cost to pay Apple to do it.

Actually I think they are oil stains, from the oils of your fingers. On my old Ibook it would happen but Other World Computing sold a leather cover to go in between that kept the oils from getting on the screen.

AppleCare doesn't provide any service above your standard warranty. All it does is extend it to three years.

Apple reps I've been in contact with have been very anal about "that's just how LCDs are" whenever there's a problem. So best of luck -- you'll need it.

Did your screen show the keys in full form? IE, did you see the squares and other unique keys (like spacebar or Caps?)? Or, did you see regions of oil blobs on your screen?
