Macbook pro temp

Recently, I am getting very nervous about the temp of my MBP. I have only been able to find 1 utility app that will allow me th see the temp of the harddrive. Playing WoW it has gotten up to 111.9 degress F.

During normal use, it holds around 105 degress F. That doesn't seem right to me, I though the operating temp was supposed to be 95 degress F.

The other question is, are there any apps out there that allow me to see things like CPU and GPU temp ?

About 20 minutes ago, it went up to 119.8 degress F and WoW locked up.

I have been thinking about getting one of those plates with fans for under the laptop. Which really annoys me since one of the primary reasons I got a MBP was so I didn't have to listen to really loud fans like in my old dell.

Operating temperature is the acceptable temperature of the surroundings.

Dont worry about it, 119 degrees is not that hot. Lots of other computers run way hotter than that and have no problems whatsoever. Unless you are overclocking or have modified your computer you shoudint worry about it.

Since you're running OS X Tiger, You have dashboard, and since you have dashboard you can run a very handy widget called iStatPro. It tells you temps, fan rate rpm's, network usage, cpu facts, etc. It tells me the different temps for things on my PB G4, You can download it from apple At this link.

As long as nothing happens, you're gonna be allright. Make sure the cooler is not covered by something (i.e. many cables, a printer etc.)

the truth is that these machines run hot, the powerbooks ran hot, and so do the the mbp's.

I’m in the same boat you are regarding getting nervous about the MBP’s temperature.

I’m using the only utility app I could find (http://www.bresink.com) that shows my MBP’s internal temp. My hard drive hangs right around 110F.

There are a few things that calm my nerves a little:

1) The MBP’s case is aluminum and therefore it’s a conduit for all the internal heat. Your DELL probably ran at the same temp internally (depending on CPU speed), but the plastic case insulated you from feeling that heat. That’s why the DELL needed those strong fans running loudly all the time to move that heat out of the case. The MBP radiates a lot of heat via the case just like an old VW engine.

2) I installed the same temp app on my iMac Core Duo 2.0Ghz and it’s hard drive temp holds right at 118F.

3) I currently live in Shenzhen, China and hang out at the Starbucks where a some of the Apple engineers frequent that work at the factory that produces a good portion of Apple’s desktops and notebooks. I was telling a ‘Steve’ about my experience with the MBP and he basically responded with my #1 example above and suggested getting AppleCare and then not have to worry about it. He BTW was using a 12” PB.
