I'm just wondering which would be more powerful (for games, photography and a bit of video editing), between this desktop:

3.00GHz Pentium 4 (Can't remember which one - no dual core though)
1GB Ram
ATi X1300SE Graphics card

Compared to a 15" Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz.

The only thing the desktop has going for it is the 3GHz chip, so I'm just wondering if I'll notice a big performance leap compared to my current desktop.

Cheers (thanks for trying to get through this very inarticulate post)

A 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo is easily faster than 3GHz P4.

Its down to the graphics card for games(which I know nothing about), but for everything else the MBP easily wins.

The MBP in this case. The graphics card in the SR is about as good as it gets for laptops and especially mac laptops.

What about MBP 2.4 GHz, 7200 RPM hdd vs desktop AMD 64 3500 (2.2 GHz), 2 GB ram and GF 7800 GTX?

MBP for sure, though the new iMac bump should be faster still, and the 24" screen is really great for video editing.

Depends on if its the GF 7800 GTX -512MB or GF 7800 GTX -256 MB.
If its the first, I would take that computer over the MBP for gaming. If not, stick with the MBP.
