Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro that broke.
I was charged $600 by apple to fix it even tho it failed on it's own.

I am thinking to upgrade but I don't know which one.

A 2009 Unibody MacBook Pro
-2.26 ghz Core 2 Duo
-8gb RAM
-240 gb SSD
-dosdude catalina patcher

Or a 2015 MacBook Air
(Base Specs)

I don't want the new MacBooks because M1 is not ready for what I need them to do and the lack of ports.

I seriously don't care about "Apple Support Software" or Big Sur,
Nor do I care about "Geekbench" Scores

All I want is a MacBook that will last me until September (when apple will make better Macs) for software coding and the most upgradability/reliability.

Thanks

if you don't care about geekbench or software support, what's meter is just screen size... if you don't care about that get the MacBook air 2015, because your MBP is old and maybe will get another issue of wear of parts or components

I have the 2015 MBA and will hang on to it for awhile because it has the scissor keyboard, user replaceable battery, and user replaceable SSD. It also runs the latest version of MacOS. I’ve upgraded the SSD to 1tb and the battery is still in good shape. When the new iMacs come out I will get one and relegate the Air for my now limited travel.

I would always buy a 2015 Air over a 2009 Pro.

This isn’t even my main MacBook. My main laptop is a 2015 MBP. The MacBook Pro is for out of my desk, so if the components get screwed up, I still have my 2015.

Well the 2009 MBP also has the scissor keyboard and the battery is also user replaceable in the MBP, but in the 2015, they have pentalobe screws so it’s harder to open. And same to the SSD. My retina was so hard to open. And this is just a travel laptop too. And also DOSDUDE patcher tools can get this to 10.15 Thanks for your response anyway
