"To remove the whine just type this in your terminal:

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext

note: it is a single line, then reboot, the whine disappear on my MacBook.

This works

Hi,
I'm on my second MBP 2.0 this one has a serial number starting with w8613 and has the whine. The firmware update did not help but this terminal thing has stopped the whine!!! Thanks! How does it work? And does anyone know if this will screw up something else?
Thanks

Ditto. I'd like a more permanant fix that the mirror widget, but I'm not willing to try this out until I know what it's actually doing. Any smart people out there?

you've just killed:

The Platform Plugin's source code is organized as a set of platform-agnostic
superclasses, which are intended to be subclassed by each Plugin. The
superclasses implement most of the standard communication infrastructure used
by the Thermal SW architecture. They also provide most of the code necessary
to parse the thermal profile (described a few sections below) and instantiate
internal classes and instance data.

i dont have a macbook pro. i think it will decrease your battery life.

Thanks for the info. Do you know how to put it back to the original setting?
