I have been having issues with the charging port on my mid-2012 13" MBP (2.9GHz i7, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000) for a while now - it wouldn't charge unless I fiddled the plug and put a piece of paper in the gap between the plug and the port to keep it exactly there. So I ordered a replacement port and followed the ifixit guide to carefully replace it. The old magsafe port looked like this

Problem is that now it doesn't want to charge at all, there's only a very very dim green light on when the charger is connected. Clicking the battery icon tells me that the power source is the power adapter and that the battery is not charging.

Things I have tried so far:
- reset pram and smc
- cleaning the ports
- 3 different chargers that normally work
- letting the chargers rest for 5 mins not connected to anything

Could it be that I just got a bad part or is there something else I should try?
