I have been connecting my 13 inch MacBook Pro to a Dell display with the Thunderbolt port to a Thunderbolt port on the Dell display. It's both for the video and powers the MacBook Pro. It's been working perfectly until I did the Monterey Beta 12 update. Now the display does not recognize that the MacBook Pro is connected and the display just goes into power saving mode. I am wondering if anyone else has come across this problem after installing the beta 12 update. I am wondering if a software update could even cause an issue like this. Thanks for any input.

I have the same on my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015). I have tried to reset SMC and PRAM but external monitor (Dell) doesn't work. There is a connection because the dark screen is illuminated by leds, but iMac can't see a Dell display. If you unplug the connection cord display is turning off.
The problem has occurred after Monterey beta 8 update.

Hey. I have an M1 MacBook Pro. Did the Monterey install last night and now can’t get my Benq 4K monitor to work with it. Same as above, it powers up the monitor and then I get an ‘out of range’ note and nothing on the screen. Display settings have changed, I used to get it working by clicking the ‘mirror screens’ tick box but that has gone. Did anyone get a fix for this?

Hi, M1 MacBook Pro, Acer monitor on Thunderdock says No Signal - but it had one just fine before the update to Monterey 12. This sucks and I can find no fix for it.

WORKAROUND: plug monitor directly into Mac, power into Thunderdock. Stupid, but effective.

I'm not on the beta but had the same problem with MBP 15in 2016 and LG 4K monitor after Monterey update. FWIW I unplugged the monitor from my computer and turned it off. Restarted the computer and logged back in. Connected the monitor to the computer, and then powered on the monitor and it's now working.

MBP 16" with Dell 24" and LG 43" external monitors. I had to mess with display settings frequently to keep them running, but were performing well the last 6 mos. or so. After Monterey, Dell 24" works fine, but LG monitor is nonexistent and haven't found a workaround.

Hey, hepalien. I registered for macrumors just now so that I could thank you for this post. Just updated Monterey now because of an issue with Apple TV+ saying that the monitor doesn't support HDR playback. The solution was meant to be reinstalling the OS, but instead my monitor wouldn't register. The Apple TV+ issue hasn't been resolved, but at least your comment here got me my monitor back. Thanks! Don.
If anyone knows how to fix the "This monitor does not support HDR playback" issue with Apple TV+, let me know! (Just to be clear, it did support HDR until last week.)

I also just registered an account so that I can thank you and tell everyone my experience. I have a MacBook Air (M1, 2020). Upgraded to Monterey this morning and then it stopped connecting to my LG 4k monitor. I then tried this method above it worked. However after I woke up the computer from sleep it won't connect again. :(

Fortunately my mac connected to my 2nd monitor Dell S2715H, a monitor with less resolution I believe. My Mac couldn't connect to this monitor immediately before the upgrade. Now it still takes about the same amount of time to connect but at least it works. Hope Apple can fix this problem soon. That's why I sometimes hate upgrades.
