my brand new MPB doesnt let me connect my iPod or my new audio interface,
both devices can be found in system profiler, I bought this computer for recording
and I cannot use my interface or ipod!??

somebody please help..

what kind of iPod do you have? 5G (iPod with video) and nano don't work with firewire.

As for interface, i'm not sure.

..

im not sure which generation it is, the b/w with the four buttons above the click wheel, the ipod works fine on my moms ibook.. is this a different kind of firewire? is that possible?
i even tried the software update and my os and ipod are up to date.. i think it must be a firewire problem.

that's what it sounds like. your version of the ipod should work fine with firewire.

I don't have a MBP so i can't try to reproduce anything or check how the system works, but if you haven't restarted, do it, and then check permissions.

applications/utilities/disk utility

then you click on your hdd, and click verify, then repair. won't take long.

good luck!

..

didnt work.. system profiler reads my devices under the firewire pane..

but they arent recognized/wont mount..

is anyone else having this problem?

this is everything i can think of.. please help me

I have my brand new MacBookPro and I cannot use two firewire devices, my iPod (not sure which generation, but the b/w with the four buttons above scroll wheel) and my m-audio firewire audio interface. Under system profiler they are both recognized in the firewire pane, but neither will function or mount.. I have been waiting for this portable for about a month now, and bought it for just for recording, someone please help.. is this somehow a 400/800 discrepancy.. what does this mean? how can i make these devices work..

Firewire 800 is backward compatible with Firewire 400. Plus the iPod is Firewire 400 anyway.

The PMU reset did nothing? Maybe they're not getting enough power. Is the machine plugged into the power adaptor? :)

If there are firewire problems they can replace the MacBook Pro. Have you tried running the hardware test CD? The only other thing I can think of to do would be a clean install of OS X.

..

i did the hardware test.. it came back no problems, i guess i will have to work up my bravery to do a clean installation as i have gotten so much done by the way of preferences and settings bookmarks etc.. do you really think that might solve the problem?

:-(

stayed up till three thirty this morning reinstalling os x and trying everything i could think of to get this working.. what should i do know?

I had the same problem with my MetricHalo firewire box. I upgraded to 10.4.5 (from 10.4.4) and everything is cool now. I think 10.4.4 had some firewire issues

Peace
Rob

this machine is a day old, has .5 out of the box.. i was on tech support all day, the conversation ended with a case number to be bumped up to level 2 and erase installing the os on my hd, losing all my settings etc.. just got home from work, finished booting with a clean drive, plug the ipod in... same effing problem..

you would think for $2000 the damn thing would recognize an ipod..

:(
