I just got my replacement MBP to fix the CPU high pitch issues as well as the screen inverter issues. Now the high pitch CPU whinning sound is still there and my optical drive seems to try to read a non-existing CD three times before giving up. It does this everytime the machine boots up or awakes from sleep. Has anyone else run into this issue?

I hope Apple gets these fixed soon. I love the MBP but hate all the issues.

what does your serial number start with? Something like W8608? I am just wondering which revision of the motherboard they gave you. If its W8611 then its rev D which still has those problems.

Why don't you try upgrade the firmware? My MBP stopped whining after I upgraded the firmware yesterday. Though, it's not 100%, some people claimed their MBP still whines after they upgraded the firmware.

Was the firmware upgrade part of the latest OS X update or do you have to explicity download a firmware updater?

Thank you. That actually seemed to resolve the CD retry issue. Unfortunately, the high pitched whinning sound is still present. Has anyone received a machine w/o the sound?

I am not going to comment on whether the "revisions" are true or not, but even if they were true as stated in the report, there is no reason to believe that every week gets a new revision. This is how rumors start.

Well, I am sending mine back in. Here comes MBP #3. I hope this one has less issues.

High Pitch Sound

I have a MBP with serial W8608 and I have no high pitch sound, but extreme heat and optical drive issues when watching movies, any thoughts?

Let me know how it goes with that. Im debating whether or not I should wait till a new mobo comes out that will not have these issues. Oddly enough, my Macbook pro seems to have a problem that nobody has mentioned before. If I move it on my desk, the bottom of the case actually scrapes against the surface of the desk. This should guarantee that I get a complete replacement, not just a new mobo.
