I thought it'd be nice to share my experience with a MacBook Pro.

Firstly, its a Rev.D (W8613) 1.83GHz 768MB 128VRAM.

Speed: It really is very quick. Doom3 works amazingly, shame I've lost interest in that game now. iLife apps are very quick. I have put my PowerBook side by side with the MacBook and the bootup speed is astounding!

Screen: The colours look really good, there's no horizontal lines like the PowerBook Dual Layer model. When closed it sits perfectly. Much much brighter than my PowerBook.

Heat: I don't know what all the fuss is about, my PowerBook got just as hot sometimes.

Trackpad: Not that impressed with the wideness of it, I keep putting two fingers on it which can confuse me and the MacBook. Maybe I'm too used the PowerBook trackpad, I'm sure I could get used to it.

Look: Very thin, I think it flex's more the the PowerBook, but only a little more. The backlit keyboard is very bright and appealing. Where it says "MacBook Pro" on the bottom of the display looks really nice, I love the way they made it reflect. Generally it looks more modern and nicer than the PowerBooks.

MagSafe: I have given this a good testing and it sure does work a treat, noticed usb cables stick to the power connecter but doesn't make any contact if done by accident.

Bootcamp: Finally I can play all my old games from when I had a windows box! Way!!!. It seems odd running Windows again, but very cool to have the freedom to choose.

Noises: I was expecting loud high pitched noises but to my suprise it made some quiet noises. This doesn't bother me in the slightest, my PowerBook made much worser noises in my opinion.

Wireless: Works better than my PowerBook did. I can now go in the kitchen and still watch a BBC news stream or continue downloading my bits and pieces.

I cant think of anything more to add other than, if you are thinking about upgrading to a MacBook, you won't regret it. My mind is now made up to do the upgrade. (I have borrowed this MacBook Pro).

Thanks for reading.

Glad your enjoying too alex, I just purchased a 1.83 stock from an apple store last night and i love it. Its a little big for me (Im coming from a 12'' pb) but im sure i'll get used to it. Its amazing the screen brightness compared to a 12'' pb. I do hear the whining, its real low but im not too worried about it because a store employee told me that the next firmware update should fix it.

I'm waiting for the MacBook Regular. The Large is way to fatty for me. And I don't even want to think about the Supersized ;)

Congrats on your Macbooks.

I have to admit. I want one. I want one. I want one.

But I haven't had my iBook long enough to justify the $$$$ in my mind.

And I put 1.2 GB in my iBook, so it sings rather sweetly.

Sigh. I still want one. I still want one. I still want one.

get one get one get one. thats what i did.;)

Maybe I will...

Either now... or wait for Merom in the Fall?

It's kinda hard to part with my iBook... this thing has really worked well.

I just got mine yesterday 2.16, 2GB, 7200RPM. Everything is perfect, no whine, etc. The only thing that off is the back of the screen, the aluminum shell in the top corners is slightly flared so you see the slight edge. My old 1G 17" PowerBook had this but I thought it was cause by the iSight clamp.

Anyone else have this?

What was surprising to me about the heat is that my MBP is *always* very hot, whereas my old PowerBook could get pretty hot, but only when the CPU was pegged.

Meaning, just sitting on the couch surfing around (low CPU usage) on my old PB = a warm but not uncomfortable experience. Sitting on the couch surfing around with my MBP = I can make smores. ;)

...And who dosen't like smores? :D

Mine works great, sometimes I notice a whine, but I either have my Creature 2s going or my Bose Quietcomfort 2s on so it dosen't matter. The system just feels snappy. When I would launch iTunes on my old dell, using probably a 4800rpm HDD and 512 RAM it would take 15-30 seconds to lunch iTunes. With my MBP it takes less than a second.

I've been playing Diablo 2 and CoD and even through Rosetta they run fast, sometimes with minor slowdown, but nothing major.

Word is noticeably slow, but it is not terrible. The screen is AMAZING and the battery is so-so. Lowest brightness, no bluetooth and only running safari and iTunes it lasts maybe 3-3.5hrs.

Best birthday present of all time.
